Feldkirchen/Herford, November 2025 – Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Herford GmbH (VKH), founded in early 2024, is preparing to launch its business operations in 2026 and is relying on the innovative technology of the ATRON Group. The company has been commissioned to supply modern on-board computer systems and implement a powerful Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS). The cooperation is planned to run until 2032.

With the launch of VKH on August 1, 2026, ATRON will equip a total of 119 buses with on-board computers from the latest AFR 5 series in several stages. These systems perform central tasks – from ticket sales, data communication, and digital stop announcements to connection to a modern background system for efficient data management.

In addition, ATRON is setting up an ITCS control center for VKH's operational scheduling. This enables precise control of line operations, including detour planning and real-time communication with vehicles and connected IT systems. The goal is smooth and efficient operations that guarantee passengers reliable mobility services.

“We are very pleased to be able to support VKH with our system solution right from the start. The collaboration underlines the confidence in our technology and our experience in the field of integrated public transport solutions,” said Markus Burger, Senior Sales Manager at ATRON electronic GmbH, at the project kick-off in Herford.

VKH was founded in February 2024 and will gradually take over bus services in the Herford district. It will rely on both its own operating capacities and the involvement of regional subcontractors. The first group of routes, covering around 580,000 scheduled kilometers, is scheduled to go into operation on August 1, 2026. By 2033, annual operating capacity is to be expanded to 4.4 million scheduled kilometers.
