ATRON installs inspection system for polygoCard in Stuttgart
(Markt Schwaben / Stuttgart, March 2016) A subsidiary of the DB Regio AG, Regional Bus Stuttgart GmbH (RBS) is responsible for sustainable mobility in the greater Stuttgart area with more than 500 buses. As a partner in the transport association Stuttgart (VVS), RBS introduced the polygoCard in the whole transport association by the end of 2015. Besides saving season tickets and simple tickets, this smart card includes an integrated payment function. In addition to local public transport functions like ticketing, polygoCard also makes it possible to rent bikes, use carsharing and more than 600 eRental vehicles in the greater Stuttgart area and the surrounding communities.
System integration completed in a few months
In autumn 2015, the new ATRON control system for the use of the polygoCard with the Regionalbus Stutgart GmbH successfully went into operation on time and on budget. The ATRON system reliably inspects the validity of eTickets and automatically processes additional information such as time limitations or expansions of the validity zone. The complete inspection process is performed according to VDV-KA. Thanks to the use of barcode readers, the driver can also check the validity of mobile phone tickets and train tickets. The result of the process is shown on the display of the on-board computer and on the customer display.
By mid 2016, ATRON will implement further functions. Through a "Rapid Action List", tickets purchased online can also be checked. This will enable customers to buy eTickets on the bus with cash.
After the successful project acceptance, Ingo Heide, Project Manager of Regionalbus Stuttgart GmbH, is already looking forward to the upcoming tasks in the partnership which has existed for 18 years already: "Our collaboration with ATRON has always been characterised by reliability and close cooperation. I am already looking forward to our new projects in 2016."
